Peel won’t officially drop their self-titled debut album until April, but already it’s being anticipated as one of the best local releases of 2007. And we’re inclined to agree. Not only does the album capture the notorious energy of their live shows (no small feat), but between the fuzzed out explosions that refuse to let the songs rest on their pop-perfect heels and Josh Permenter’s tight, smart lyrics, Peel could very well be a new Pavement for Double-0 decade. That is, of course, getting a bit ahead of ourselves, but there’s a lot to love here, and even more to look forward to. Peel plays this Thursday, February 22 at the Beauty Bar with All in the Golden Afternoon and past Sound Off vets For Those Who Know.
Allison Moore: keys/synths, vocals

Strangest comment or comparison ever made about your music:
On our press release the guy who wrote it said that we were all teenagers and they said that our record “might be the greatest debut by a bandEVER.” I thought that was pretty funny.
Favorite local bands:
Horse + Donkey, Martin Crane and Mark Ashworth, For Those Who Know, The Early Tapes
Favorite local venue:
We always have the most fun when we play a house party.
Upcoming shows scheduled:
Feb 22 w/ For Those Who Know @ Beauty Bar
Mar 10 - Austinist’s Local Music is Sexy 3 @ Austin Convention Center (not really at the covention center)
Mar 14 - SXSW Showcase, Peek-A-Boo Records @ The Ritz
Mar 17 - Peek-a-Boo Records Day Show @ Bella Blue Boutique
Shows over the next month that you’re excited to see (other bands):
Some of your favorite albums from the past year:
The reissue of “Blue” Gene Tyranny’s Out of the Blue has been my favorite record of the past year. Some other notable ones are: Joanna Newsom – Ys. Arthur Russell – First Thought, Best Thought. Deerhoof – Friend Opportunity. Loose Fur – Born Again in the USA. Byrne/Eno reissue of My Life and the Bush of Ghosts.
Ideal band (past or present) to open for on a national tour:
I always thought that if there was one show I could’ve seen it would have been when Franco Battiato opened for Eno in the 70’s. So yeah, that would be great, to open for those two guys; not very fitting or ideal, but it would be awesome.
Austin Sound questions:
Favorite Peel Sessions?:
The This Heat peel session is probably my favorite peel session. Now that I think of it it might be a BBC Session, but either way it’s worth checking out. Kevin Ayers’ is good, Pavement’s is great.
So, if we were to peel Peel, what might we find?
Caramel, nougat, and almonds
”Oxford”: When we read we always end up having to look stuff up in the dictionary.
“Bells”: One of the few love songs we have. See if you can catch the references to Tokyo Drifter.
“In the City”: This is probably the hundredth song written about living in the city. We’re Alexander Hamilton fans, Jefferson can take a hike.
