Artist: Shearwater
Label: Matador
Genre: Indie Rock
“Shearwater’s knack for the epic is already well documented, but with all due respect to their prior efforts, the broad sweep of Rook’s 10 songs is like nothing else you’re likely to experience in 2008.”
In general, a message like that on an artist’s website would make me wonder what in the world they were doing when they decided to become the most confident act on Earth. However, when it comes from the mouth of Matador Records it seems like a reasonable claim. Part of that could be simply due to the fact that they have such an outstanding track record that dates back many years, but I’m guessing that it’s because Shearwater’s Matador debut, the Palo Santo deluxe re-issue, was incredible, and most aren’t in any position to doubt the follow up will be anything less than stellar.
Rook is currently set to be released on June 3, and their Myspace says they’ll be looking to tour before and after it’s out. Feel free to join me in the eagerly waiting corner.
