Following up last year’s extraordinary effort, The Stage Names, Okkervil River has announced they’ll have another album out this September 9. Called The Stand Ins, the album appears to be a sequel to their post-modern contemplations in the same vein as the Black Sheep Boy Appendix culled songs recorded for the original album that didn’t make the cut.
The Stand Ins will likely be far from just cast of, B-Side material. Sheff had originally conceived of The Stage Names as a double album, so the new material should be just as strong. The release will come just in time for their appearance at the ACL Festival, but unless you have a hot ticket to Lollapalooza, you will have to wait until then, or head overseas where the band is touring, sans Meiburg, for the summer. As always, we’ll keep you posted.
