Titus Andronicus getting sloppy wet

Where do the days go? Already it’s the weekend, but good thing the clubs are prepared to make it a good one. We know who the real father of John Edwards’ Luv-Chile is - It’s Weekend Preview!

There’s a little something for everyone out there this weekend, with Titus Andronicus invading the Mohawk alongside the Midgetmen on Friday, or chill with Brothers and Sisters and Friends of Dean Martinez at Lambert’s. Saturday we’re planning on getting started early with the big River City High Class of 2008 party at the Scoot Inn, featuring all kinds of garage and psychedelic goodness, while the night brings a choice of a triple cd release at Stubb’s with Sarah Jaffe, Micah P. Hinson, and Dove Hunter, or close out the evening with Souled Out 2008 at the Victory Grill, with Phranchyze, Crew 54, and much more. And don’t forget to go pay your final respects to the Opera House on South First beside End of an Ear. They have their closeout party this Sunday.

Friday

There will be some decidedly aggressive Airing of Grievances at the Mohawk tonight, with Titus Andronicus unloading their Pitchfork approved rawk, the New Jersey quartet unloading rousing punk anthems with gloriously unhinged fervor. Matching them every riff for sloppy riff will be Austin’s own pop punk stalwarts the Midgetment, who recently delivered one of their best albums with Showpony. This will be a show that undoubtedly helps build Austin’s awesome drinking reputation! Thanks Forbes, we’re honored!

If something more mellow helps you imbibe (because imbibe you must!), head over to Lambert’s for the atmospheric southwestern instrumentals of Friends of Dean Martinez, whose pedal steel will spark with the country pop flavor of Brothers and Sisters, flying between the Byrds and the Jayhawks with their fantastic sophomore LP Fortunately.

Saturday

Break out the sunscreen for Saturday’s bash at the Scoot Inn. Door’s open at 2:00pm for the River City High Class of 2008 show, which though we’re not sure what that is all about, are extremely excited for the lineup they’ve put together. Music starts at 4:00pm with Houston’s Black Black Gold, and continues on the hour with our Sound Off featured band this week, All in the Golden Afternoon, the awesome Spiritualized with twang Astronaut Suit, the Tunnels, Ripe, The Koreans, and the heavy headliner of improv rock trio Tia Carrera. We’re exhausted just thinking about it.

But save room later in the evening for your choice of desserts. At Stubb’s there’s the triple cd-release spree, as Will Johnson collaborator Sarah Jaffe drops her delectable debut EP Even Born Again, Micah P. Hinson takes a turn with The Red Empire Orchestra for his latest, and Dallas’ Dove Hunter delve into The Southern Unknown with their debut.

Or you can can get Souled Out over at the Victory Grill, with some stellar beats courtesy of Houston’s Lower Life Form and Austin’s Phranchyze, along with Crew 54, DJ Remix and DJ Ish.

Sunday

Sunday brings the fond farewell to the Opera House, at least on their South 1st location. On tap to play starting at 5:00pm (ish) are Night Viking, Teddy & Marge, Ich Ni San Chi, and Nano Bang Bang. They’ll be grilling if you bring your own food, and have “fun and games” to boot!

That should hold you over until next week, but if you want more, you can always check out Do512 or Showlist Austin for more comprehensive listings.
