Jon Dee Graham Returns to Continental Club Wednesday
By Austin Sound • Aug 26th, 2008 • Category: News •We knew he wouldn’t stay down for long, but tomorrow Jon Dee Graham makes his triumphant and improbable return to the Continental Club stage following his car crash only one month ago. Though still in a great deal of pain (and debt), Graham’s retaking his Wednesday night spot at the CC will undoubtedly be a therapeutic experience, both for the singer-songwriter and his legions of fans that have followed his recovery. You can bet the place will packed tomorrow, so if you are not able to catch him at the Continental, Graham will also be taking the stage Saturday night at the Saxon Pub.
We wanted to post up this blog that JDG recently posted on his myspace. (If there is one Austin myspace blog you should subscribe to, it is Graham’s. His posts are always as poignant, hilarious, ornery, and heartfelt as his songs). So here, in Jon Dee Graham’s own words, is what to expect Wednesday night:
WEDS NIGHT - congregation resumes;
my League of Super Friends (Hmmm. The Fighting Cocks…SuperHeroes or SuperVillians? Does it MATTER, really?) and I retake the night at 10pm Weds. Yes, it’s AMA (against medical advice) and yes i am missing an internal dealie or so and yes there are some skeletal structural members that aren’t where they ought to be or doing what they ought to do, but —–
WEDS are WEDS.
i have missed that gig above all others and feel that the healing potential far ouhtweighs the risk. i need to be with my friends doing my work.
SELA’.
Pharmacologically speaking, (by the way, “Painkiller” is a heinous misnomer…perhaps “Painbotherer” or “Painannoyer” is more accurate) i promise 45 minutes of entertainment plus a possible bonus of 10 or 15 minutes of pathos. if you’re lucky, maybe a few tears, a little blood. Who knows?
i have missed you and can’t wait to come home to my CC.
And we can’t wait to welcome him back!
