Backyard’s Final Celebration Blowout This Weekend
By Austin Sound • Oct 23rd, 2008 • Category: News, Sound Picks •The time has finally come for the Backyard to shutter it’s doors, but they’re going out with a band. The decision to close the Bee Cave venue announced earlier this year really isn’t a surprise, as the Exurban sprawl that has sprung up around it has pretty much killed it’s isolated charm. But still, we hate to see it go.
On Saturday, the Backyard will host a free “thank you” show featuring a slew of great local acts. On the bill are Del Castillo, The Boxing Lesson, White Ghost Shivers, Alpha Rev, Dremnt the End, Los Gallos, Driver F, High On Hotdogs, Joker, and DrumJam with doors opening at 3:00pm and music kicking off at 4:00pm. On Sunday, though, Willie Nelson will return to headline at the venue he helped inaugurate 16 years ago with it’s first show. Also playing on Sunday are Elizabeth Wills, Lucky Tomblin, Nakia & His Southern Cousins, Carolyn Wonderland, The Gourds, Kelly Willis, Grupo Fantasma, Ruthie Foster, and Jimmie Vaughan. That show kicks off at 3:00pm. You can get your tickets here, but they’re going fast!
