Magic Jewels serves as one of the flagship forces behind the Black Fontanelle collective, the DIY multi-media group working out of their compound in north Austin. The trio of irregular Joes unleash a wicked barrage of psychedelic noise and mind-bending destruction with a heavy-metal heart, furiously unkempt and with a biting sense of humor. The group recently dropped a six song EP (with at least 32 different versions of cover art to choose from!), and has a 12″ planned for later this year, as well as their debut full length. While it’s difficult to take the Jewels head on, their winding, oblique force of distortion hits from all sides and is, to say the least, an experience live. You can get be-Jeweled this Saturday at Red 7 as the trio rides with a stellar lineup of local garage groovers the Strange Boys and L.A.’s Mika Miko.

Y’all are part of the Black Fontanelle Collective - who all is involved with that project and what is it all about?

Black Fontanelle was created by David Baldridge. Magic Jewels is involved, as well as, all the side projects and stuff we do. Black Fontanelle is a music collective based out of Austin, TX with the aroma of the great state of Virginia. Our main goal is to make everyone heard. We specialize in quality, DIY merchandise. Yes, those are two words that can go together. Everything we create is considered a Compound Fracture. Be that a recording, a flier, a show, a film, an album, an EP, a compilation, a poodle, a noodle, a doodle.

What’s so magic about your jewels?

well, our jewels were forged in an ice castle deep within the earth’s core from the ball sac of a lightforce warrior. We went on a spirit destiny quest to aquire the sacrad sac and after battling the ghost demons of the worlds unknown inner layers we faced the ultimate test of true enlightenment. Seeing the true essence of our mother planet and conversing with the elders of the different dimintions, we proved our worth by harnessing the powers of the stars and creating jamz that shook eternity and explained the importance of everything at once.

this song is called “Crank Fantasy” it is about doing lots of crank in the desert and seeing thru the eyes of an eagle and shit.

Magic Jewels is a mega-force that can not be stopped. we blast sonic explosions in your face, ripping it from yer head, leaving your brains scrambled into a steaming skull-bowl of memory soup. our electric riffs melts eyes and deafen unborn babies in the womb. Our jamz create earthquakes and form tornado tunnels above us, sucking in all that hear it, tossing them down the cosmic funnel, surfing the vortex of the alterverse until they are spit out into the heavens above floating like wiggling music notes above the clouds. sacraficing your self to the ultimate power of the Magic Jewels equates to instant bliss and a return to man’s original form of pure energy and light.
