You may remember the Rocketboys from their winning the first Sound and the Jury competition put on by ACL, garnering a slot at the festival back in 2007. Back then, they were a fairly new outfit calling themselves Homer Hickam and the Rocket Boys, and hailing from the fertile musical frontier of Abilene, TX. We reckon they must have outgrown Abilene, because the group has recently transplanted to Austin and become simply the Rocketboys. They also have some new tunes on the way soon, one of which they have released into the web for download today. The group certainly has some nice production going for them on “Like Ice In Water,” the song fitting fairly comfortably between the spectrum of locals like Alpha Rev and Low Line Caller. Which way they will ultimately lean, we don’t know, but we’ll be keeping our ears out for when the album drops sometime in the near future. In the meantime, they’ll be returning from tour on August 1 with a show inside at Stubb’s featuring Dear Future and the Steps. Check out the song after the jump:
