Oh, poor Alan Palomo, cursed by hype and now doubled billed for Fun Fun Fun Fest as both Vega and Neon Indian. While the latter will likely draw more attention, the former shouldn’t be shrugged off as a side project, nor does Palomo seem set to let that band linger in the shadows. While the set swooned with complete retro, electro-disco from debut EP Well Known Pleasures, he unloaded a new song and declared Vega would have a new album out on Fools Gold, just signed last week apparently, for next year. And the closer did indeed rock - giving guitarist room to shine, and drifting from the un-ironicly delivered, but too often ironic-feeling 80’s synth, to more Cure-ish touches. So far, Palomo’s 1 for 1.
