L.A.X. offers up gritty dancefloor dramas, throbbing beats bursting behind the aggressively grooved vocals of Andrew Collins, Erin Jantzen, and Yadira Brown. Originating as an unlikely electro-infused side project of Collins and Jantzen, both from much harder backgrounds with At All Cost and Rory & the Artificial Heart, respectively, L.A.X. has evolved into a six-piece party-crashing force. This year brought their second release in the form of the “A” EP, while the band continues to erupt across stages locally with their uncompromising synth and guitar jams. Check them out this Saturday, September 11 as they headline the inside stage of the “Wild Frontier Fest” at Mohawk, with a huge lineup that includes Holy Fuck, Oh No Oh My, The Frontier Brothers, Follow that Bird!, Ringo Deathstar and about twenty other bands.

Austin Sound questions:
What would you say are the points of inspiration or similarity between the band and L.A.X. the airport?
I would have to say there are none. Ha. It’s a common comparison for obvious reasons, but to be honest there is no connection. It’s kinda just a name that stuck, as much as I’d like to give you a better answer.
Y’all have released the L ep, and the A ep, so when should we look forward to the X ep, and what can we expect from it?
Well, we just released the A ep in May, so no telling when we’ll release the X.
You can expect the “same ol’ not the same”. Let me elaborate, we consider our music to be very eclectic (within obvious boundaries) and we will always have that element to us. Our music is inspired by life and cannot be formulated, it just sort of happens organically. Each new song is usually a pleasant surprise to us as well.
Song Introduction:
“Fakin’ It”: This is the first song we wrote together after Yadira joined the band (and also our first video), and it was definitely a new and fun direction for us to take. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PVMGqNKJUU
Sound Off:
The other night, someone mentioned that they thought L.A.X had something for everyone - that because each member is so different and brings a unique element to the band, as a whole we don’t leave anyone in the crowd out. Although this would seem like a genius pop marketing strategy on our part, the plain truth is that we are all just being ourselves ALL the time, and that as group we came together as friends first, each bringing with us our own experience in other bands and individual spectrums of making music. We are the epitome of a ‘happy accident’.
