Listen to Cowboy and Indian and the aptness of the moniker is readily apparent. Jazz Mills, who dazzled as a backup singer in T Bird in the Breaks, and Jesse Plemons, of Friday Night Lights fame, meld a supple twang with a rootsy grit in duet, adding in Daniel James’ to lay down some funky blues touches on guitar. Though only formed less than a year ago, Mills and Plemons are a natural compliment to one another, and we are excited to see what the trio produces when they release their debut recording later in 2011. You can get a taste of that below with the bluesy “Ledbellies” that they’ve offered up for download, and catch them live as they kick off a big westward tour this Friday, January 14th at Lambert’s.

Austin Sound questions:
What are some of your favorite “Cowboy and Indian”-themed songs?
We get that Jazz is “Indian” and Jesse is “Cowboy”, but how did Daniel end up as “the Rider?”
Well we have actually changed that to The Wolf. I mean look at him… has a mustache and kinda looks like a wolf. I have been trying to write a legend of Cowboy and Indian…so one day when i am finished….you will know why we are who we are.
This song is called “Ledbellies” and is the song we chose for our first video.
We came together out of nowhere and were immediately inspired by one another. We hope to inspire those who hear us and also be inspired by them. I (Jazz) personally hope to hug everyone on earth before I die. I love Daniel and Jesse and our manager Susan. We are such a new band and we are constantly evolving, but we have seem to find our stride in these last couple months and Im excited about the way we are starting to sound.
