You might be inclined to write off a band like Not in the Face! simply on the basis of their name, but that would be a mistake. The duo of Jonathan Terrell and Wes Cargal cast raw rock nuggets that can claw and scratch with a garagey abrasiveness, kick dirty roots, and even unload an outright fury of heavy Zeppelin-esque prog that would seem impossible from a two-piece. With Cargal abusing on the drums and Terrell flailing out front with proto-punk intensity, Not in the Face! delivers it direct and untempered. They’ll be playing Club DeVille this Friday, February 4 alongside Crooks and DJ uLOVEi as part of Knuckle Rumbler and From the Mind of Adi’s First Friday Frolic. You can also catch Terrell running his rootsier solo project, JT & the Heartache Tycoons, at the Ghost Room on Saturday the 5th with Frank Smith and Sad Accordions.

Song Introduction:
“The Way”: this is the speed to which I (JT) run to and the rest is all metaphors for a heated game of Othello with a couple strippers.
“Downtown Girl”: This was a real chick!! You all know her…I’m sure of it.
Sound Off:
In the time of chimpanzees I was a donkey… I reckon just to give you a little insight about this band, it started out as a complete and total JOKE!!!! “Hey Wes, wouldn’t it be hilarious if there was a pussy punk band called “Not In The Face”?? Then we got completely obsessed with the Sonics and classic/ classic 80’s country (thanks Brian Tweedy) and I wrote the song “Way To Go Baby”.
We basically built the entire band around one song and just covered a bunch of 50s and 60s pop hits and b- sides until some one would book us. Thanks for slumming Beauty bar. Unfortunately we are just too much fun to deny and too emotional to let down. Thanks for slumming, Austin TX.
