We really don’t thrown around words like absurd casually - really only when the situation truly calls for it, or with Charlie Sheen. So when we say that the lineup for the Austin Music People launch party and first annual benefit is absurd, you know it’s good. Here’s the deal: Back when the non-profit was announced in October, we thought this would be the kind of group that could actually get stuff done for music in Austin. But we just figured that was politics and money stuff - you know, boring. We didn’t anticipate that it would putting on amazing events like this. So to help raise money for AMP, there will be a huge show on Thursday March 31, at the new ACL Live at the Moody Theater (naturally) to help drive membership. Tickets are on sale as of 10am this morning for two prices (including a cheap $20 one!): There’s the $20 Community Membership including ticket to the floor and balcony and membership that includes invites to exclusive AMP events, special discounts and giveaways, or the special $250 Professional Membership, which is a ticket to mezzanine seating as well as a pre-show VIP Happy Hour reception with AMP’s Board and professional members. Plus, AMP membership includes regular professional networking gatherings, project opportunities, key updates, invites to AMP events, and special discounts and giveaways. So yeah yeah yeah, all that i is good stuff, but why are you REALLY going? Because of this lineup below:
Ghostland Observatory
Blue October
Court Yard Hounds
Alejandro Escovedo
Brownout!
Bavu Blakes
The Coveters
Bright Light Social Hour
We of course really couldn’t care less if Blue October is on here, but the rest of this lineup is so full of win it almost makes sitting through one of their sets reasonable. Get ye to your virtual ticket outlet.

Austin Sound…..what a coward. Not even the courage to list your real name.
Blue October plays a free show to support a great organization and the Austin music community and you decide to take a piss on them. You embrace all that’s wrong in the Austin music scene. Poser indy BS. Go ahead and spend a lifetime starving for your indy cred. Strive to be as indy as you can be. Whatever that means in 2011. Now go and tell yourself how cool you are and how important your opinion is. Loser.

What kind of Comment is that? It is pathetic that someone like you is even allowed to open their mouth. Shame on you.
Blue October does so much is so many ways for anyone and everyone. Take your BS snotty remarks somewhere else. Dwight T, you said it all.
Wow really? That’s pretty messed up Blue October is a great band. I can’t believe u have the balls to say that! I mean come on we all know blue is well known in Austin n have plenty of fans who support them n u have the nerve to bash them like that!
Blue October is stepping up and playing for a great organization for free and you have nothing positive to say? Luckily for Blue October there are many people who have an ear for sincere, real, music performed by hardworking artists who know all about creativity and yes giving of their time and energy to a good cause.
Way to go on the professionalism in your comments, the collective We in your comment shows the lack of insight into todays music lover, so this is shared by all i am assuming, how pathetic. Glad there are so many Blue October fans who will be there and show them the support they always deserve.
I am a fan of the indie scene. I love that Texas has such a diverse and thriving music culture. In saying that, I find it reprehensible and frankly unprofessional that in a article that is highlighting the wonderful cause being supported FOR FREE and the mission behind said cause that you, as a “journalist” took the time to add a comment that base. Blue October, no longer an indie band (but only because they have achieved success), has signed on to do something that must be from their hearts, as they are not being paid and you take a nasty swipe? Very uncool. I would hope the people at AMP would be just as upset, as many people will be coming AND PAYING just to get the opportunity to see Blue October play a set. It is a great cause and Blue October playing has given it even more press and notoriety. Good for that band, their hearts are in the right place.
Not that I’m a grammar snob, but that error alone, is evidence that this “article” has absolutely no merit. I don’t like to “thrown” around criticism, however.
I am probably not going to say anything that everyone before me hasn’t already said. You are writing an article to promote the cause, correct? Why on earth would you bash one of the bands supporting this same cause? This isn’t an article to critique the bands…your immature comments could do more harm than good for AMP and getting people to buy tickets.
Maybe you should read the AMP mission again. Whether you like Blue October’s music or not really has no place in this type of article. What started as a decent news piece was ruined by such a tacky comment at the end.
Blue October is awful. And not a single person commenting above has any idea if BO is being compensated for their set or not, so to assume that it’s for free and because they love AMP is just a bunch of fanboy clowning.
In fact, for a lot of fundraising events, the entertainment IS paid (perhaps not their full normal guarantee, it can vary) and the *proceeds* go to benefit the non-profit.
What’s more amazing is how every middle aged soccer mom fan of an awful band flocks to AustinSound to comment the moment one of these bands gets offended that someone from AS took a poop on the band. AustinSound has been crapping on mediocre derivative rock bands since it’s inception. Just take a look through the archives of articles. There’s no reason to think they’d love your taste in music, yet you race here to untangle your panties and defend a band that — get ready for it — sucks.
Also, and most importantly: Monica? Cyndi? Raylynn? Mayra?
What is this? Break time during amateur hour at San Angelo’s worst titty bar? Get back to work.
