Hey Pappy,
How could you be writing about a 2/18 show on 2/17??? Time-traveller?
I, myself, chose the Friday night, 2/15, Belleville Outfit show in Spartanburg. Judging from the packed house - from preshow until way aftershow - I'd say you must have been at some nearby bar watching some other band.
There were no seats to be had and it was tricky even navigating to the restroom in between all of the fans. There was a standing ovation and at least one encore.
If you ever find out what band YOU were listening to, let us know.
Sorry to poop on anyone's birthday cake about this (metaphorically speaking ofcourse), but am I the only lonely voice questioning all the euphoria surrounding The Belleville Outfit?
Heh, incredible musicians, but one can only stand so much of the so-called "Austin Sound". They can play other styles, just less Texas Swang and more Americana/B'grass/Celtic too.
Maybe they were all road tired BUT I didn't think Ms Hunt on fiddle connected much with the crowd at Friday's show (Showcase, 2/18/08 Spartanburg, SC). Since some of the group are local bred and born, might've been the major reason the show started off as a sellout, but then soon dwindled to about 1/2 room early on.
I contemplated giving them a second chance for the Sunday show but just don't feel the trip would be worth it.
Like the Tannahill Weavers have become, it was 2 hours of very talented folks playing virtually, the same song.
Yawn
