Mp3: Car Stereo (Wars) - “Whoah Dude”

By Austin Sound • Apr 23rd, 2010 • Category: News

Car Stereo (Wars) is dropping his sophomore album tonight at the Beauty Bar. It’s called Explains It All, which is good, because we have lots of questions! Like what’s up with magnets? Someone definitely has lots of ’splainin’ to do. Below you will find the lead track from the album, awesomely titled “Whoah Dude” in what we can only assume is an homage to Joey Lawrence. This mashup is all jacked up with the Eighties, actually. Rad. Chris Rose has of course been living up in Brooklyn these days, but still manages to keep at least one Macbook here in Austin. And you know when CS(W) throws a party, is no half-assed affair - there will be free vodka and free beer (which we suppose is “while it lasts”, or tickets, or something like that to keep the BUMS out), and with the $8 cover, you get a copy of the CD, as well. But wait, there’s more! If you RSVP with our buds over at Do512, you get in for $5! And that includes sets from Neiliyo, Hot Britches, and the LCD Soundsystem tribute band All My Friends. Whoah Dude, indeed!

Chris Rose Talks Car Stereo (Wars) Farewell Show Tonight

By Austin Sound • Jun 26th, 2009 • Category: News

For the past several years, Chris Rose has packed the dancefloors here in Austin with Car Stereo (Wars) phenomenal mashups, but tonight he bids adieu to the scene for bright lights of New York City. We know, who would want to leave this wonderful weather, right?! Tonight’s show at the Beauty Bar will no doubt be a packed, sweaty, crazy dance party, with lots of great tunes (Rose has promised some awesome new MJ mixes) and folks out to see Car Stereo (Wars) go bumping out in style. We posed a few questions to Rose to find out what’s next for him, and what’s in store for tonight. Also on the bill at the Beauty Bar are locals Neiliyo and Zeale, along with the phenomenal freestyling of Astronautalis. Car Stereo (Wars) goes on round midnight, and that party will probably roll until the noise police come to shut it down! Also, if you happen to be up in Chicago for Lollapalooza in August, you’ll be able to catch him one more time at the big fest. Jump for some words of wisdom.

By Austin Sound • Sep 23rd, 2008 • Category: News

In preparation for his string of ACL afterparties shows at Emo’s, where he’ll be shaking the floors inside on Friday and Saturday night, Car Stereo (Wars) mashup master Chris Rose is offering a download of his latest creation. It’s a pretty sweet remix of Spoon “Rhthm & Soul” (sic), and we’re sure he’ll be unloading it on the sweaty masses this weekend. Download the track below, and prepare to overtake the stage inside at Emo’s.

ACL Lineup Preview (Sorta)

By Austin Sound • Apr 7th, 2008 • Category: News

Oh boy, it’s festival time. Not to be outdone by Lollapalooza, who released their official lineup this weekend, Austin City Limits is giving us a preview of a few of the 130 artists set to invade Zilker Park this September. Well, sorta…

The preview comes in the form of a mashup from local artist Car Stereo (Wars) (née Christopher Rose). Basically, the song (available both on the ACL Website and Car Stereo (Wars)’s myspace) is a mix of songs by 29 of the 130 artists slated for ACL and it’s your job to figure out who those artists are.

We’re not going to tell you the obvious ones (Gnarls Barkley) but we may drop a few hints about where that classic opening guitar riff comes from.

The real list (so far) is after the jump, for those of you who hate suspense.

Car Stereo (Wars) <3 You, Bloodily

By Austin Sound • Feb 7th, 2007 • Category: News

2/7/07
This Saturday Car Stereo (Wars) wanna bring a little love back into your life, but in classic CS(W) fashion. And so they present “Your Bloody Valentine: A Valentine’s Prom.” From 10pm – 2am on February 10th the dynamic DJs return to the Beauty Bar with all new Mash-Ups and Remixes. We’re not sure exactly what a Bloody Valentine Prom looks like, but we’re just hoping it’s not this:

They may, though, all still laugh at you.

Courtney Chavanel will be on hand snapping free Valentine’s portraits and there is rumor of a special “Kissing Booth” (third stall from the right). Car Stereo (Wars) also wants you to get there early as they’ll be passing out free stuff relate to the new Bloc Party record. What that has to do with Valentine’s Day we’re not exactly sure, although they do have that “This Modern Love” song.

Prom 2.0 this Saturday at the Beauty Bar

By Austin Sound • Sep 21st, 2006 • Category: News

Ah Prom. If yours was anything like ours, your date and first love spent all night hanging out with the guys and then passed out on the quarters table and you left to get a ride home with Bobby Joe Franklin, and, too disillusioned to say no, lost your virginity in the bed of a pickup truck and spent the next four years of college blindly promiscuous with any number of guys whose faces you didn’t recognize the next morning. Or you were passed out on the quarters table while your date went home with Bobby Joe Franklin and disappeared into a life of rumored debauchery. Like they say, you just can’t replace those glory days.

But you can relive them this weekend – tacky formal wear and all – as KVRX 91.7 and Car Stereo (Wars) present Prom 2.0 at the Beauty Bar from 10-2 Saturday night. And cover is only $2. It’s a second chance at getting it all wrong. No, we’re not bitter.
