The Polyphonic Spree/Octopus Project - Thursday Sept. 14 (Emo’s)

By Austin Sound • Sep 12th, 2006 • Category: News

A Polyphonic Spree show isn’t so much of a concert as it is a happening, and if you’ve never before caught the twenty-some member choral group, you should prepare yourself to be dancing and singing along no matter how stoically hip may think you are.

But their show this Thursday also offers a bit of twist to their usual pop bursts of optimism. For one thing, the Spree has traded in their choir robes for army uniforms and has truly mobilized its forces in support of their upcoming album The Fragile Army. If you thought the group was somewhat disturbing already because of their cultish demeanor, then this is certainly not likely to sit well.

In an interview in conjunction with the DT Weekend, Polyphonic Spree choral-master Tim DeLaughter revealed details of a new EP to be released on September 3. The EP will be called “Wait” and features two new songs and three covers.

The title is appropriate enough for fans who have been anxiously anticipating the group’s third album, The Fragile Army. Originally scheduled for release this summer, that date has been pushed back to now have us waiting until the Spring of 2007. It’s reported to offer 13 songs and is being recorded, oddly enough, by pAper chAser John Congleton.
