Mp3: Woven Bones - “I’ve Gotta Get”

By Austin Sound • Jul 29th, 2010 • Category: News

Ah, Woven Bones. Likely to get another nice little local boost when they open for Pavement in September on the big stage at Stubb’s, the trio is also dropping a new single on Hardly Art next month. These guys have more labels than a kindergarten classroom! We think this is label #4, following this spring’s full length LP on HoZac, In and Out and Back Again. The new single will be “I’ve Gotta Get” b/w “Hey Kid”, and you can get a taste of the A-side below. The initial pressing will be 1000, with 500 on translucent red vinyl. Ooh, purty! The band is also planning their sophomore album for release next year, which means another opportunity for a new label! Woven Bones will be heading out to the west coast for a little tourage next month, but they’ll hit up the United States Art Authority here in town first with a gig on August 6th. Check out “I’ve Gotta Get” below.

Woven Bones - In and Out and Back Again (HoZac)

Shocking news: on their debut album In And Out And Back Again, Woven Bones sound like they are listening to a lot of The Jesus & The Mary Chain. There, now that that’s out of the way, perhaps there’s a little time to discuss their excellent album - just act quickly on the discussion, because the entire thing clocks in at about twenty six minutes and feels more like fifteen with its breakneck pace.

The band careens from song to song so quickly and forcefully, never slowing down to even acknowledge that there are flowers, much less sniff them, that – especially upon first listen – the audience is left wondering what herd of animals just trampled them.

Sound Off: Woven Bones

By Austin Sound • Feb 2nd, 2010 • Category: Featured Story, Sound Off

Woven Bones are all about rhythm - a hard driving, insistent pummeling of percussive backbone propelling the unholy fuzz and scrawl of guitar and bass from Andrew Burr and Matthew Nichols. With an intensity that leaps from the Cramps and Stooges fury to the intimidating and hazy barrage of Primal Scream and the Jesus and Mary Chain, the band is finally prepping the release of their debut LP for this summer. But already behind the release of three vinyl singles and an EP, as well as the incomparable surge of sound at their live shows, Woven Bones have emerged over the past year as one of Austin’s most promising bands about to break out of the gritty Red River garage scene. That reputation will be further advanced this weekend as they help celebrate the release of Matador Records’ Austin compilation, Casual Victim Pile, with a three night, 17-band stand at Beerland. Woven Bones plays Friday, February 5 alongside Wild America, The Young, The Fleshlights, Elvis, and the No No No Hopes, but the party kicks off on Thursday night and continues through Saturday.
