WOXY Falls to Lack of Funding

By Austin Sound • Mar 29th, 2010 • Category: News

While we were out last week recovering from the debauchery of SXSW (remember that? Great times!) some really crappy news hit the local music scene. The internet radio tastemakers at WOXY, who just moved to town at the end of last summer, had to shut down their station due to lack of funding. Apparently it’s been an issue for a while, and SXSW was their deadline to get on track, but nothing has come through so far. According to reports from the Statesman, the station was doing fine on audience size, but their parent company Future Sounds has been carrying the station while they attempt to find new funding, but to no avail. While there is still a lot of hope that some deals will come through to revive the station, this really sucks for Austin, and of course the awesome WOXY crew, who even in their short time here have done a lot for our local music scene. Here’s to hoping they can get back on the internet airwaves soon!

WOXY Brings “The Rumble” to Beerland Tonight

By Austin Sound • Feb 11th, 2010 • Category: News

Man, it’s been great having WOXY in town. For one thing, we see them everywhere, keeping up with the local scene. For another, they are hilarious. Answering “Some KGSR bullshit” in response to an audio identification round question at the recent Mind Over Music trivia contest endeared them deeply to our hearts. (Though in all fairness, we’re not even sure what some KGSR bullshit is any more since the station seems to be in the midst of identity crisis). Now WOXY’s staging their monthly Rumble shows here in town, and have a kickass all-local lineup to launch. Tonight, February 11, WOXY, Future Sounds, Waterloo Records, and the Austinist will bring a free show featuring TV Torso, Dirty Dancing, and the Happen Ins to Beerland. We guess Beerland is new Mohawk? Oh, and did we mention it’s free? It’s free. Keep up with the upcoming Rumble shows on WOXY’s blog.

WOXY Moving to Austin

By Austin Sound • Jul 16th, 2009 • Category: News

Woxy.com, the much loved but seemingly often embattled internet radio station, is going to be moving to Austin! According to a blog posted up on their site this morning, the Cincinnati-based three man crew of Mike, Shiv, and Joe will be transplanting operations to the Live Music Capital of the World and by September 8 be broadcasting from their new headquarters at the Austin Theater on South Congress. Everything in the Web-world will pretty much continue as usual, but this will undoubtedly be good for local bands, as Woxy carries some serious rep and it can’t hurt to have those guys trolling our clubs for new music! Their official announcement after the jump:
